Speaking of the control scheme, Modern Combat has done a pretty good job so far explaining its somewhat odd but well designed control layout. It serves as a simplistic first mission so that you're able to easily come to grasp with the game's control scheme. ![]() Basically you just need to wipe out the opposition and meet up with your crew to finish the mission. Things obviously go wrong quite quickly and the city becomes overrun with Kazakhstanian rebels. The first mission in the game has you parachute down into a Kazakhstanian city where you've given the simple task of rendezvousing with an allied artillery unit. As such, your missions revolve around tasks like helping a convoy to safety, defending an area from faceless foes or what have you. Like most war games, the story progression is somewhat of a hands-off tale where you're given mostly abstract missions to complete in order for the bigger picture to come together. As such, the early missions are set in areas enveloped in a blanket of snow, which obviously is quite a bit different than most settings in the PC version of Battlefield 2. ![]() The main campaign revolves around a story set in the former Soviet Union where multiple ex-Soviet republics are rebelling, with Kazakhstan being the central point of the struggles, at least early on in the game. ![]() While we've said it before, Battlefield 2: Modern Combat has practically nothing do with the PC game other than war and guns, at least as far as the singleplayer campaign and its tie-ins go. Now that we have a complete build in our hands, we've been able to figure out exactly how the whole singleplayer aspect and its various reward and challenge elements work out. ![]()
